How MyMP works
What MyMP is not
MyMP is an independent project built and run by one person. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Australian Government, the Australian Electoral Commission, the Parliament of Australia, or any political party. It receives no funding from any party or campaign.
MyMP reports what representatives did and what legislation says. It does not tell you whether a vote was right, which party to support, or how to vote. Where it describes arguments about a law, those are reported positions attributed to the people who made them.
Where the data comes from
Members, parties, divisions, individual votes, attendance and rebellion rates, and the plain-English summaries of what each vote meant. Run by the OpenAustralia Foundation, a registered Australian charity. Licensed under the Open Database License.

About the AI summaries
Plain-English summaries are generated by AI. Where an Act's full text isn't retrievable from the Register, the summary is written from its title and registration details only — it describes the subject matter, not the specific provisions — and every summary says which of the two it is. They are MyMP's own description, not a reproduction of Commonwealth material, and they can be wrong. The official text is always linked, and it is the authority.
When the data updates
Votes are published in Hansard after they happen, so a vote usually appears here within a day — this is not a live feed from the chamber floor, and a "your MP just voted" alert means the record has become available, not that the vote is happening now. Member and party details refresh daily, so a by-election or floor-crossing shows up within a day. Boundaries change only at a redistribution.
How outlet lean ratings work
MyMP does not rate outlets itself. Inventing a proprietary bias score would make this app the arbiter of who leans which way, which is exactly what it's trying not to be. Every rating is attributed to an established third-party media-monitoring organisation, and the lean applies to the outlet, not to any individual article.

What's missing, and why it matters
MyMP can only include outlets that publish a public RSS feed. news.com.au, Sky News Australia, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, Herald Sun do not — and all five are News Corp mastheads, among the highest-reach outlets in Australia. The feed should not be read as a representative sample of Australian media coverage.
Corrections
Parliamentary data contains errors and lag, some of it upstream of MyMP. Every screen showing derived data has a "Something look wrong?" link. Reports go straight to the maintainer, and you don't need an account to send one.
